weightingWe would like to thank Alexandra who helped our daughter, Mia, into this world and now taking postcare of mum and Mia.

mias-blanketAs you may remember I made a blanket for Mait. You may remember from your own childhood experience that you had to have everything similar to your sister/brother. Thus, I had to make also a blanket for Mia, and as big as Mait's one...

So, as many of you heard that I cannot go to deliver before the blanket is ready, I can report now - the blanket is ready! I finished it this lunchtime! Now I am fully prepared to go to the hospital.

On the pictures - the blanket with red flowers is Mia's and the one with the lila/white flowers Mait's.both-blankets

Winter, winter!0

snowWe have winter - Yesterday was snowing all the afternoon, at the end there were as much as 5 cm high snow outside. Cologne people were playing snow-war outside and sliding on streets. Even cooks from one restaurant made a snowman outside their kitchen.snowman

It has been really strange year with respect of snow - the first snow of last winter came in March and now it already snowing in November!

It’s really Christmas weather outside! By the way - Christmas markets will be opened this week and all Cologne is already decorated.

Margit's Birthday0

flowersYesterday was Margit's Birthday, and despite we did already celebrate several times, we went with some estonian friends to see the estonian teather group NO99, performing 'HEM', with simultanean translation into german. Very funny and with deep thoughts about estonian past, present and future.

Margit got also these beautiful bunches of flowers.

Milk Shortage0

milk-shortageit is well known that babies want to eat more milk than normally available between the 7th and 10th days of life. In our case it is most visible during the day, when the baby wants to eat every 1-2 hours, but we are lucky that he still sleeps in 4 hours intervals during the night :)

HiiumaaMichael has already asked me for couple of days to write something to our blog.

After I stayed home, I have been really busy all the time. Today is 23 July 2008 (Happy Birthday my dear deskmate Mann!) and until the due date is just some hours left…

Now, when I have finished some important tasks, I have a wish to contribute also from my side and share with you some feelings which are related to a place, our home, which is far away at sea and which is deep in our hearts. Our Estonian friends already know that I cannot get over of our home in Hiiumaa island.

Hiiumaa (in German and Swedish also called Dagö- Day Island) is the second largest island in Estonia and situates in the Western Estonian archipelago. My dad is from Hiiumaa and almost all my relatives from my dad’s side live there, in Männamaa village. Our hut is situating ca 30 km west from Männamaa, on the south side of Köpu peninsula.

What brings us to Hiiumaa? Or, being honest, what brings me to Hiiumaa- of course nature, silence, peace, sea, fishing, relatives and friends. When I was living in Tallinn, I enjoyed the possibility to go there whenever I wanted and on the moment I drove my car towards to Hiiumaa, I was filled with incredible peace. Now, living in Köln, I miss Hiiumaa and spending spontaneous weekends there. Unfortunately we cannot go this year to Hiiumaa, but hopefully it’ll happen next year. May be that home will be the place where our son will do his first steps and may be he will even swim at sea for the first time in our Kiduspe beach.
I really hope that my family will love our home there as much as I do and their summer dreams will always include a trip to Hiiumaa to our hut, to our home, which situates far at sea (I really recommend to read Astrid Lindgren’s book Seacrow Island (in Swedish Tjorven på Saltkråkan), this gives very good overview of island life).
