Family trip to the zoo to celebrate once more Mait's birthday.
Baby carrier0
Our last adquisition, a manduca baby carrier, is not so confortable as the sling for babies but the best for carrying Mait on the back.
Mait had to be operated from a lymphangioma.
Here is he just one hour after the operation as nothing would have happen.
He was the only one playing and running all the time in the hospital.
Driving back home0
Here you see how Mait is driving us back home on his ship thanks to captain Vahur.
After plenty of long boring days at country side, Mait got lots of cars and even a garage from the flea market ;)
Mait's Second Birthday in Tallinn0
After the lonely party in Hiiumaa we had to celebrate again in the city ;)
On this trip to Hiiumaa, Mait got really close to mother nature, seeing live animals he only knew from books, like: butterflies, snails, ants, frogs, grasshopper, spiders, and even snakes.
Mait's Second Birthday0
Picking berries0
Today's lesson2
Today we learned that it is better to leave Dad to prepare the meat on the grill. Finally, Mait got the idea of danger.
During the last few days Mait has been developing some nice new skills like swinging at the playground, biking and pushing Mia's pushchair. Watch the videos!

Mait has never kissed before, we did not even know that he did know what a kiss is, but he started by his own to kiss Mia...
Back to baby times0
Mait wants as expected, and as you can see here, to do everything Mia is doing.
The blanket is ready2
As you may remember I made a blanket for Mait. You may remember from your own childhood experience that you had to have everything similar to your sister/brother. Thus, I had to make also a blanket for Mia, and as big as Mait's one...
So, as many of you heard that I cannot go to deliver before the blanket is ready, I can report now - the blanket is ready! I finished it this lunchtime! Now I am fully prepared to go to the hospital.
On the pictures - the blanket with red flowers is Mia's and the one with the lila/white flowers Mait's.
We have removed the wall of Mait's bed, so he can get in and out when he wants. As a result we have found him in the morning sleeping in the most strange positions...
Handicap entrance0
Yes, Geni told me today that Mait is related to the Excellency as follows:
Toomas Hendrik Ilves is Mait's mother's second great aunt's husband's great niece's husband's second cousin's husband's ex-wife's fifth cousin.
Meat in spanish, as you see Mait is quite desperate for meat. This time, i prepared two beef steaks of about 200gr each, and i had really to hurry with mine not to loose it...
Hasta la vista, Baby!0
Since almost 6 months, Mait has been using pacifier only for sleeping, and we can now proudly say that our child finally does not use any pacifier anymore :D
Easter Eggs0
Margit spend some time at the kindergarten creating this great easter nest for Mait.
Mait really likes meat. When eating he first takes the meat pieces out of the food and when there is no meat left he considers to eat the rest (or to ask for more meat :D)... He already manages to eat a whole normal steak.
Juuuuuuuu, it is fasten time!0
This year we celebrate the lent (shrove Tuesday) going for sledging and eating lenten buns:-)
This invaluable piece of modern art is not for sale and currently, just for short time, in exhibition at the European Kindergarten in Deutz.
Mait is getting really interested in Legos. Here is one of his last creations :D
Mait playing0
His Excellency3
Mait and Margit in Düsseldorf with His Excellency Toomas Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic of Estonia.
Xmas Party0
Mait had lots to do on Sunday at the estonian xmas party in Annaberg. First he had to act as a spruce and then he had to unpack his present.
St. Martin's day2
For the first time Mait took part of the St. Martin's day parade (the same for me, i had never heard from that before ;)
Mait already understands quite a lot, you can already ask him to bring you the ball and in several languages, here in spanish but he does it also in estonian! Watch the video!
Everybody was helping to arrange Maits new room's curtains. Margit sewed it and Mait installed it, i was just watching ;)
Grandpa visit0
Since Mait had to stay home and we had to work, we did invite grandpa to take care of Mait...
Conjunctivitis0
Here is another nice picture of Mait with Conjunctivitis. But now everything is ok again.
Black-eyed Mait0
Mait did fall quite badly hitting his right eye, and despite it is not black (yet) it got really big. :(
Mait Walking0
Mait is already walking quite well. Also without any guide, if you do not care about direction or speed...
Mait is already standing by himself for quite long time, but we were not able to catch him with the camera, until now ;)
First steps0
On 20 August 2009 Mait did his firts two steps, unfortunately in the kindergarten, so we did not see it.
BBQ in Weilerswist0
We went by bike to a BBQ in Weilerswist, where Mait had his first encounter with a cat.
First Birthday1
Mait celebrated his first birthday 3 times:
once in Estonia before coming back from holidays,
once only we three here at home on the right day, and
one big BBQ party yesterday.
Mait managed today for the first time to go down correctly the stairs. And the second, long missing, video about Mait going up the stairs.
Cocktail Evening0
To celebrate the end of the holidays we had a nice cocktail evening with Rodrigo and Karla. Here the Blue Lagoon and the Lady's Dream.
Mait in the pool0
The weather has not been that nice last days so we had to replace the beach with the pool. Here 2 videos of Mait in the pool.
After visiting grand father, we headed to our final destination: Hiiumaa. And here is Mait playing and eating an apple in his, still empty, pool...
Here is Mait a little bit afraid of Roxy, the big neighbours Dog in Saaremaa, not to finish like his ball :(
Welcome Party0
Already in Tallinn we organized a big welcome party with many friends, big and small ;)
Mait driving0
Here is Mait driving his own 'shopping truck' in a Selver supermarket in Tartu.
We have been busy last days renovating Maits own room, and he has been always helping.
Despite we do not have any video yet, Mait started to clap a couple of days ago ;)
Mait brainstorming0
Mait had on Friday 1 May unofficial brainstorming session with grandparents in Brussels when mum Margit was participating at a country-wide brainstorming session My Estonia at the Estonian Embassy to Belgium.
Measures Update1
Today we got an update on Mait measures, 10760g and 82cm... thanks God he slowed down. By the way, Mait was with 6 Months as tall as i was with 1 year :s
Mait has never been so close to a dog... on the picture, Chapa is on the left and Mait on the right, in case you can not differenciate them :p
Mait's first words1
Despite i do not have any prove for you yet, because every time i take out the camera he completely shuts up, i wanted to state here that Mait first word was "aitäh" which means "thank you" in estonian and the second was "papa" which means "dad" in several languages (and he has also said, but not so often, "isi" which means "daddy" in estonian).
But, of course, these words does not have any meaning for him yet... but soon :D
And i have to work harder so he learns soon to say "ema" or "mama" at least ;)
Hard life - Mait started at school0
Yesterday Margit and Mait went to Gouda, to the Netherlands to check an Estonian school there. This is really great school! Greetings to all staff! Mait took part of a baby school and he enjoyed it very much.
We are not very sure whether we will go there more often, because it is too far away. :(
Mait sitting by himself1
Extreme Crawling0
Despite Mait is not using very much his legs for crawling yet, he is already much faster than one week ago...
Mait's teeth0
Despite there is no picture of them yet, Mait got the day before yesterday one of his upper teeth and the second is coming...
The spring is slowly arriving to Cologne, and Mait can start to use his main christmas present...
Mait in Sauna0
Mait is here for the first time in the sauna (I have been almost every day :p)
New friend0
Mait met a couple of days ago for the first time Christian, the one month old son of our friends Kathi and Andrés.
Mait eating1
After a hard start Mait is getting used to the spoon, and today he even had his first meal with meet.
On Tuesday, we took Mait to the pediatrician for the fifth general examination.
And he seems not to grow so fast anymore (finally): 80cm and 9460g, that means Mait is with less than 7 months bigger than 50% of 1 year and 5 months old kids!
Margit carrying Mait0
We just realized that we had very few pictures of Margit carrying Mait, so here is an update from the canary islands :D
Careless father0
Hitting Mait's head against the ceiling :( ... but do not worry, i am pretty sure he will survive ;)
Mait trying to find the south!0
Video recorded at Imbi & Siim's place in Brussels featuring Mait playing with a compass.
Happy half a year!0
We are celebrating today Maits sixth Month :D
Here a review of his whole life:
Plastic Bib0
Since Mait mostly playing with normal bibs and eating them more than the food he was supposed to eat, we decided to try a plastic bib. And we are really happy with it...
Drinking water0
Solid food1
After more than one week having plenty of indicators that the mother's milk is not enough anymore for Mait, he got today his first solid food, more than 2 weeks before we had planned... and as expected, he did not like very much...
Mait's new chair0
Since yesterday Mait is sitting with us at the table with his new chair.
Mait sitting and playing0
Mait is already putting by himself his pacifier into his mouth. And here are two recording attempts...
We are back home, and we did use today for the first time our converted pushchair since the pram is now definitivly too small for Mait...
Cannibalism2
Mait trying to eat his own foot.
When was the last time you tried to reach your foot with your mounth? :D
And more snow1
Today is snowing, and just after this picture was taken, i fell down with Mait in the sling because of the slippery street. And what was Margit doing? just concerned about us, and did not take any picture :(
Santa Claus has come to town0
Today Mait took part of his first Christmas party at Annaberg manor with other Estonians. He could also enjoy being on Santa's lap.
This year we do not have any xmas tree since we are going over xmas to Estonia. But here is a nice picture of Mait with Karin's xmas tree.
Mait talking0
Despite Mait started already talking on his very early days, i was not able to record it until now. But on Saturday i could record two short videos. Enjoy ;)
Today we took Mait to the pediatrician for the forth general examination.
Everything is fine, there no traces of his small head haemorrhage.
Outstanding is just his measures: 76cm and 8180g, that means Mait is with 4 months bigger than 50% of 1 year olds!
Trip to Brussels1
Yesterday we went to Brussels to help Imbi to find a flat since she (and Siim) are moving there in January.
We used also the ocassion to meet our friends Reesi, Giuseppe and Tancredi, and we went all together, including Mait, to have a good Kriek in the legendary Mort Subite pub. :p
Mait has already travelled a lot for his short age. He has flown already 6 times and travelled 3 times by train. Here is a picture of his second train trip.
Nice Clothing1
Here is Mait featuring a very nice 34 years old piece of clothing, originally used by Margit.
Visit to Hagen0
After more than 2 Months (shame on us :$) we went last Sunday to visit our family in Hagen. Everybody was very happy to see the small 'big' Mait once again :d
Mait's birthday0
Our friends Kertu and Gerli came (almost) specially from Estonia to celebrate Mait's third month.
Mait turning0
Today Mait is getting 3 months old and it is also the first time he turns around by himself, but from the belly to the back...
Measures Update0
Today we got an update on Mait's measures: 70cm and 7040gr.
Otherwise we have been just walking a lot enjoying these last nice autumn days.
Mait's first biking trip0
Today we got to try a Chariot Captain XL with Infant Sling, so Mait was biking for the first time in his life :D
But he is still too small for it, and the winter is coming, so we are (specially me :p) waiting for the next Spring!
After exercising0
Here is Mait after exercising and me after having watched the soccer match between Chile(1!) and Argentina(0) for the FIFA World Cup 2010 at 3'o clock in the morning... :p
Mait exercising0
Celebrating Mait's 2nd Month0
Yesterday we went out to celebrate Mait's 2nd month and estonian grandfather's, Siim, first visit to Cologne. Note the difference how grow-ups celebrate compared to the small one... ;)
Mait holding toy3
Mait is holding in this picture a toy for the first time ever! And what is the first he did? he tried to suck it!
Exercising0
Mait is going these days to the gym (or better said, the gym is coming to him). He is having some quite tough times but also a lot of fun ;)
3 weeks ago Mait took he's first bath, alone, in his small bathtube, that was only once, nowadays he is bathing and having fun in the big tube at least once per week.
Do not come too close to Mait being he hungry... this could happen to you if you do!
Massage session0
Today was the first massage session for Mait, our friend Merike is treating him, and she scold us for being to lazy towards Mait :( ... but he is so easy... ;) so from now on, every day 30 minutes gym for Mait.
Mait Playing1
Just to tell how much Mait likes (and needs) his pacifier, he is already even trying to put his thumb in his mouth and sometimes also succeeding after hitting his eyes a couple of times ;)
Big and small0
Look how big our 6 weeks old Mait looks compared to this small 1 week old baby...
First bath ever, and he seems to like the water... understandable, imagine how happy will you be bathing after one month without ;)
Carrying sheet1
First walking with the carrying sheet, and i have to say that it was very confortable, for me at least, but i think also for Mait...
Strategical measures0
Mait had the first regular visit to his pediatrician today. Mait is getting tomorrow 4 weeks old, he is 62cm tall and 4820g.
Since the grand-grand mother could not make it to Cologne, we went to visit her. The aunt had also the possibility to meet Mait for the first time... (let's say she was just too lazy to come to Cologne ;).
Cousins meeting0
The cousins are meeting the second time (yes, i forgot the camera again!)
NB! Mait is wearing a jacket that was made by Margit's mom for baby Margit!
Finally free!0
Finally no cables any more! U2 highlights: 4000g, 56cm and 35cm head circumference. everything else is also ok.
5 Days old0
We are still in the hospital, but everything is developing well, with luck we might be Wednesday at home. see more pics here.
Mait is now out of intensive care station, he has still to stay in the hospital for a couple of days, but everything is very, very fine now, he even had his first breast meal.
Welcome to the life0
Mait Moossen was born the 29th July 2008 at 20h25 ECT in Bensberg, height: 54cm, weight: 4010g. Because of a lung inflamation on the intensive care station of the children's hospital of Cologne :(, but everything will be fine in a couple of days. For more pictures click the picture!
How did we choose the name?
first, i had to say that we had several names we both liked for a girl, but it was really hard to choose the name for a boy.
First Margit was proposing some Spanish names but i did not like, then we checked several name databases, including this one on the web, having names from Kaka to Taxi... then we were discussing about using Siim (the name of my father in law) but we wanted to have something with M to continue the tradition. So i proposed two Estonian names i have heard up until now that i liked, Mait and Mart, and at the end we decided to use Mait. (greetings to the big Mait in BXL)
This is the piece of art and hard work made by the future mother for Mait.
Margit - I have to say that I have not done creché for more than 16 years, but I really enjoyed doing this blanket and I hope that Mait will like it as well.
Long time ago...0
It seems to be so long time ago when Mait was still fitting in an ultrasound picture...
